Pelosi single-handedly caused tensions between China and Taiwan to increase significantly, all in an attempt to gain political points from her arrogant moral grandstanding.
Great article, I've been wanting to write about it myself but havn't had the time. I personally literally dont care if PRC conquers Taiwan, I simply don't want WW3, or, if it happens, would prefer China manages to stay uninvolved. We're seriously ruled by the most incompetently reckless dementia patients of all time. I mean she's out there talking about our president Ben Franklin and digging a hole to China at the beach.
I know what you mean. I can't tell if this was sheer incompetence on Pelosi's part or if this was a deliberate attempt to provoke China. Either way it was incredibly irresponsible.
I think they don't understand the extent to which US power and prestige has been reduced and Russian and Chinese power have comparatively grown. There is a famous instance in Roman history where the King Eumenes [I believe, Macedonian nobility had like 5 total names they re-used constantly] of what remained of the Seleucid Empire [the part of Alexander's Empire which had been the Persian Empire, at that point with actual Persia having been lost to the Parthians etc, his kingdom was mostly Syria at that point] took advantage of instability and civil war in Egypt to invade, and had much of the country and and was in a position to take all of it, the greatest prize of the Ancient world. A Roman ambassador arrived with a tablet from the Senate demanding his withdrawal from Egypt. He responded that he would have to discuss it with his Friends [advisors who grew up with Macedonian royalty, all of Alexander's generals that split up the empire were his Friends]. The ambassador drew a circle around him- a King- in the sand with his staff and said, "You will not leave this circle until you give an answer", and he responded, "I shall do as the Senate decrees", and withdrew from Egypt.
The point is, our geriatric rulers think it is 1992 when the US had that degree of power. But it is not 1992.
